Laurel

A young couple relocated from California to Raleigh in order to be closer to family. They found a lot in an established neighborhood and dreamed of a modern house sitting along the ridge of the site and adjacent to three beautiful, large white oak trees.

The house is comprised of three levels – main level for living and working, upper level for sleeping, and a basement for bonus space, storage and mechanical. The living and dining rooms are housed in an all-glass space with a steel-clad fireplace at one end and sliding glass doors on the opposite walls that open to an expansive yard.

A slightly sloped roof with large overhangs strike a balance between “uber modern boxy” and North Carolina barn vernacular as does the combination of wood siding and stucco.
