Stoneridge
Annu and Chris bought an amazing house in an established neighborhood filled with large, wooded lots. The house was a virtually untouched Deck House – think 1970s version of the Sears and Roebuck kit homes. The house was begging for a full interior renovation, primarily finishes and fixtures, as well as an addition of a primary suite, screened porch and lower-level office.
Views from the main spaces in the house out to the woods were stunning, but Chris and Annu wanted more views and more natural light. Though it seemed like a crazy idea when first proposed, we flipped the rear gable of the roof to slope up towards the trees which added a second level of windows along the back of the house.
Annu and Chris love clean, simple modern boxes, which isn’t exactly in keeping with the form of the existing house when considering an addition. By separating the primary suite from the original house with a screened porch and glass hallway connector, we were able to maintain the integrity of the deck house and give them a big box for sleeping and working.
